Trying to get it

I have been playing guitar for about 2-3 years but inconsistent playing

I can play some chords but lacking a real music sound due to struggling with strumming and no groove

I started later in life @58 my goal is to play along with my sons and for my own bucket list

Another goal is to play something that other people can recognize what I am playing 😃

I am enjoying playing guitar and looking forward to working with the Taplature program

Unfortunately I have been swamped with work and guitar playing fell far back

I am working on trying to get back to playing guitar again hopefully change my schedule.

Part of the problem was my lack of gaining headway so it was easy to pass on playing, but now I am looking forward to working with you and your system. I really want to play

Not ready for actually video yet

A long and winding country road

Paul - as promised, Country Roads, first few bars at 80/100/120 & 160 bpm with lyrics (not going to embarrass anyone by suggesting it is singing!) Noticing finger positions inconsistent in relation to frets, some well back and occasionally too close, perhaps even on it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wmb2alrgssnsm6x/Country%20roads.mp4?dl=0

GregS Woodshed Diary

Hi everyone, I'm Greg. I'm based in South London and am four Zoom lessons in with Paul. Very much a beginner who wasn't getting anywhere convincing with self/Youtube directed learning.

Most of my (long gone) teens and early twenties were spent listening to grunge (Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Soundgarden), Britpop (Ash, Blur, Radiohead, Oasis), American indie rock (Weezer, Pavement, Arcade Fire, Pixies). I gravitated a bit more towards classic and conventional rock sounds as I got older (Neil Young, Dylan, Bowie, Springsteen, Talking Heads, Black Crowes).

Anyway, lesson 4 with Paul started introducing singing while playing. Here's my midweek update on the Heart of Gold exercise I was struggling with on Saturday:

Starting to get the hang of the swing foot tap (I think it starts on the and of 1) but there are definitely a few beats where it’s woolly.

Trying to improve more strategically

First, a little about me for context: I'm a 21 y.o. electric guitarist, been playing for 11 years. I have:

- Written instrumental funk for 4 years (guitar pro warrior)

- Played prog rock/metal (mainly Polyphia) for 3 years

- Played contemporary Christian rock in church for 7 years

- Recently began playing and singing at the same time, and vocal songwriting

- Currently in an emo/ pop-punk band

A quick rearrangement of things with a "zoomed out" foot tap gives this. I've ditched the count for a full spoken representation of the rhythm of the notes (colour coded to match the foot movements).

Complex lick with spoken count and foot tap
Red for down foot, Blue for up foot.

Hopefully makes sense at your end and now if I can get my hands warmed up I may have a go at this! EDIT: Got my head around it and here's a slow run through with metronome and the mechanically shaped quintuplets!
